 The Arusha University College is a public institution, established in March 1990 following the signing of a Charter by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, His Excellency Julius K.Nyerere As a University, our core responsibility is to provide a conducive environment for teaching and learning, knowledge generation and community service.The educational programmes that are offered have been carefully designed to suite a wide range of clientele. Individual students have the opportunity to choose programmes depending on their interest and convenience.

The Library Complex

Introduction
The  Library Complex which is situated at North-East of the Administration block has been under construction since 2006 but is nearing completion.  The three storey building is designed to allow interchangeability of all major stack areas; reading areas and staff areas turning it to be both economically viable and user friendly. Once completed it is expected to be one of the modern, biggest and most sophisticated libraries of Higher Learning Institutions in East Africa. It is expected to engage about 50 librarians in order to manage all operations within the building.
Characteristics of the library
  1. The library is designed to be more functional rather than monumental. It is easy to navigate and economical to operate, with a big space it will fulfill the library roles and facilitate the delivery of high-quality services.
  2. The  library is in a flexible mode to allow expansion or any other innovations brought about by the need and increase of the users. It provides a variety of study environment to suit the growing diversity of users and their different styles of discovery and learning.
  3. The library has taken into account the safety and security of its users and collections and equipment. It conforms with the health and safety requirements of the users, in that it has enough air ventilations,
Library Structure
  • Basement: The floor will be specifically for receiving of library materials, space for archive, book bindery section as well as staff canteen.
  • Ground Floor: This floor will be the main entry and exit from the library offices and service points.  It will also host a sizeable area for shelves as well as for reading.
  • First Floor: The floor will host some few offices and service points, such as photocopying. A large area will be made for bookshelves, reading tables, carrels, etc.
  • Second Floor: This floor will host special study rooms, carrels, reading areas, books stacks, etc.
  • Third Floor: This floor will host a number of seminar rooms as well as offices.
Library Resources

The information resources will be of two types. These are non electronic resources (books, journals, and newspapers) and electronic resources.

    Non Electronic Resource: The library will be equipped with some of the best books in the fields of Accountancy, Management, Business, Information Technology and Economics and there will be a few journal titles
    Electronic resources: Currently the use of electronic resources is in high demand in most learning institutions.

E-Book reading facility:

Apart from the databases mentioned above, a server-based facility for reading CD/DVDs that come with some of the books is being installed. Images of these CD/DVDs will be available on-line on any computer connected to the IAA network. Being networked, the system will allow any CD/DVD to be accessible to unlimited numbers of concurrent readers.
